but I couldn't pass up the opportunity to own an icon of American woodworking machinery. I didn't plan on buying this saw and was perfectly happy with my Rockwell Model 10 Contractors saw. I have made a few projects on it, and it is a great saw. The unisaw is actually very easy to work on, but doing anything mechanical for the first time is usually a frustrating endeavor for me. 310, probably 6-8 hours, and a bit of frustration. To bring this old Unisaw closer to the features of a modern machine, I fabricated a dust-collection arrangement at the back of the saw and made a motor cover. I think they'll hold for the life of the saw but just in case I have replacement parts ready to go. I replaced the top (which had been broken and cracked in multiple places), replaced the fence rails (had been drilled and bent), repaired and repainted the fence, replaced the throat plate (cracked), and replaced a lock knob (broken off). It unfortunately has a 20 amp two pole light switch instead of the cutler hammer toggle switch. After building the router table and cabinet on the R4511, I could no longer open the motor cover, so I modified it as to slide ti open as a vertical drawer.

I believe that many of the parts are original, including the fence and rails, miter gauge, dust door, and switch plate. The new covers for the motor is a full 3/8 thick, compare with the flimsy 1/8 of so on the R4511, this is a massive cover. Tablesaw, table saw, Delta, Rockwell, Unisaw, cabinet, contractor. It is missing the cast motor cover which is a strike against it for the Unisaw enthusiasts. It was purchased in northern California east of Sacramento. I have to admit the a 1944 vintage Unisaw is my primary table saw- it works for the work I put through it. I bought this saw off a gentleman that knew very little about the saw and had purchased it in a lot from another mans estate.
